Some would say you can’t keep up with iGaming legislation in the US, but there are so many different ones. The issue with the US is that there’s not one rule and one governing body – each state has slightly different rules. Whether it’s a different tax rule or how to use the website, it always seems so different.
Below, I’ll talk you through ways I’ve found to make it easier to keep up to date with iGaming legislative changes in the US.
Follow Reputable News Sources
One of the easiest ways to keep up with this industry’s changes is to follow reputable news sources and search for recent iGaming news. It’s so easy to find tons online.
Usually, I check out major news outlets with dedicated sections for online betting and legal updates. ESPN, the NY Times, and Forbes usually cover massive changes. Or you can specifically Google iGaming legislation changes in the US, and any will come up.

They’ll also always publish news about changes to legislation.
Subscribe to Newsletters
Subscribing to newsletters is another great way to keep up with legal amendments. Newsletters come straight to my inbox without me even having to do a Google search. Most of the top gambling news websites will have newsletters.

These newsletters give readers a summary of current events without having to visit numerous websites every day.
Join Online Communities and Forums
Forums will always tell you everything you need to know – most of the time, if you find a forum about legislation changes in the US, it’s people moaning about them. Reddit, Quora, or specialized platforms are good examples of places where people discuss multiple iGaming issues together. Notice how I said issues. Most of the comments you’ll find are people talking about website and game issues rather than legislation changes but they’re still a good place to look.
These platforms typically talk about updates within legislation recently passed. Most of the time, legislation changes won’t really affect a player unless there are changes to how you can deposit and withdraw money. Most of the time, legislation changes are aimed at the casinos.
I also like reading other forum members’ opinions on how they understand the implications of these laws.
Social Media
Another tool that helps me keep up with legislative amendments is social media. People who are influential in the field, lawyers who specialize in it, or leaders within the industry give real-time notifications via Twitter or LinkedIn on any change that has come into force – LinkedIn is a massive one. A lot of industry professionals use social media platforms to share tips and give updates promptly about the most important happenings. If you haven’t got LinkedIn, I’d definitely recommend getting an account. Side note: it’s great for networking and your career.
I also track hashtags related to web gambling and legislation. Hashtags like #iGaming, #OnlineBetting, and #GamblingRegulation can help you find relevant posts and discussions. It won’t always be related to iGaming, but you definitely will find some information and updates.
I’d say social media is my favorite way to keep up with iGaming news. Not necessarily iGaming legislation changes but the iGaming community. You can find new websites, gaming events, etc.
Legal Professionals
This sounds a bit extreme, but I’m just giving you some ideas. It’s not something I’d necessarily done, but a quick email never hurt anyone. Legal experts will be able to tell you the subtleties of legislative amendments.
Many law firms also publish blogs and articles on their websites discussing new iGaming laws. If anything, this is where I’d say you can get the best information. You don’t necessarily have to contact a law firm, but you can have a quick scan of their blog to see what they’re talking about.
You can find iGaming-specific legal companies online. These blog posts usually have incomparably detailed perspectives on the situation compared to any other source of information about the rules for gambling online. You can also sign up for their newsletters or webinars specifically focused on regulatory updates – they’re a real gold mine for useful information.
One thing you’ll realize when you try to keep up with US legislation about iGaming is that it’s difficult to keep up with. There are so many different laws and subsections depending on the state. You will always be able to find the information you need online, but the question is whether you’ll understand it. And whether you even need to know about it. Most of the legislation changes will relate to iGaming companies rather than players.
