If you ask us, affiliate email marketing is a tremendously exciting space to be in. US retailers spent an impressive $4.7 billion on affiliate marketing back in 2016, and experts estimate that this spend will hit $6.8 billion by 2020. On top of that, affiliate marketing is also quickly catching up to other more traditional forms of marketing; it now generates 16% of all eCommerce store orders in the US (as a point of comparison, paid search generates 20%)
The bad news? Because affiliate marketing has gone “mainstream”, everyone’s realizing that becoming an affiliate is a great way of generating passive income. This results in stiffer competition across the board.
The good news? Affiliates now have access to plenty of tools and platforms that they can use to market their website more effectively. Among other things, we recommend that all affiliates learn the basics of email marketing, which gives business an average ROI of 122%.
In this article, we’ll discuss the five best email marketing services that casino affiliates can use to reach out to their existing and potential customers. Let’s dive right in!
1. Constant Contact
Compared to the other email marketing services on this list, Constant Contact is one of the most “old-school” options. Our gripes are that their templates aren’t aesthetically appealing, they’re not flexible when it comes to drip campaigns, and their delivery rate is pretty low. (We’re talking about 71% vs MailChimp’s 92%). This means that if you send out a newsletter promoting a new casino offer to your 10,000 subscribers, only 7,100 of them will actually receive that newsletter in their inbox.
That said, Constant Contact does have a few redeeming qualities. We like that they offer plenty of support options (they have an online Knowledge Base, as well as live chat, video tutorials, and call support). Constant Contact also integrates with Outlook, so there’s that.
The bottom line: Get Constant Contact if you’re currently using Outlook and you want to be able to sync everything easily, or if phone support is particularly important to you.
Pricing: The basic “Email” plan starts at $20 per month.
2. MailChimp email marketing
MailChimp is one of the most popular email marketing services for businesses, and for good reason. It’s cost-effective, it has an interface that’s easy to use and navigate, and it allows you to set up autoresponders and automated email campaigns without hassle.
Say you have a pool of customers who are interested in poker games, and poker games only. You can segment this pool of customers, and trigger emails that feature poker games to them. Your other customers (who are interested in, say, roulette games) will get a different set of emails talking about roulette games. Since your emails are highly relevant to your customers’ interests, you’ll experience higher conversion rates.
The bottom line: MailChimp is a solid email marketing service which allows you to create automated email campaigns easily.
Pricing: MailChimp’s “Forever Free” plan costs $0 per month, and you can get by on this assuming you have <2000 subscribers in your list.
Aweber is another popular email marketing service, and this one sets itself apart from its competitors by offering business owners access to a free stock images library. Aweber also has a large depository of 700+ email templates, all of which are mobile-responsive. (As a benchmark, MailChimp only provides business owners with 90+ templates).
Like MailChimp, it’s also simple enough to use Aweber to set up an autoresponder or an automated email campaign. That said, Aweber’s reporting isn’t as user-friendly or feature-packed. On top of that, Aweber’s basic plan is a little on the pricey side.
The bottom line: Aweber is a great one-stop shop which allows you to source for images, design a beautiful newsletter, and incorporate said newsletter into an automated campaign for your casino members. The only con is that it’s not as cost-effective as the other options on this list.
Pricing: The basic plan starts at $19 per month for up to 500 subscribers.
GetResponse bills themselves as the world’s easiest email marketing platform. To start off, create a newsletter via their Drag and Drop Email Editor or HTML Source Editor. Design-wise, you get to choose from 600 pre-designed templates, ordered according to industry. If you’d like to set up an A/B test, this is easily configurable within the editor.
Like the other email marketing services we’ve discussed, GetResponse allows business owners to create autoresponder campaigns. On top of that, GetResponse also has a marketing automation module that allows you to build workflows using if-then-logic. For example, you can set up a rule that says IF your casino members click on a link in your introductory email, THEN send them a follow-up email and tag them as “high-value”.
The bottom line: GetResponse is a great email marketing tool, especially for casino affiliates who are interested in marketing their games via automated workflows.
Pricing: The basic plan starts at $15 per month for up to 1,000 subscribers.
ActiveCampaign is a highly powerful email marketing software that allows you to target your casino members with laser-precision. Using ActiveCampaign’s drag-and-drop Automation Builder, you can create fully automated workflows and set up automation actions to tag contacts or move them across lists.
On the flip side, one disadvantage of ActiveCampaign is that it doesn’t come with a timezone delivery feature. This means you can’t schedule your campaigns to go out at your subscribers’ local times; if you choose to send an email at 7pm in New York, for example, it’ll be delivered to your subscribers in London at 12am. As you might imagine, this will hurt your open rates.
The bottom line: ActiveCampaign comes with all the bells and whistles you need to run a successful email campaign. But if your casino members are located all over the world (instead of concentrated in a specific area), you’d be better off with another email marketing service which does offer timezone delivery.
